I visited COSTCO store in Woodinville, Washington Saturday morning, right at the store's opening time. I had my doubts about the reality of the shortages, and needed to shop, anyway, so I thought I'd check it out for myself. They had eight big warehouse guys escorting two pallets of rice out to the showroom floor just about the time I arrived. Six of the eight then stayed with the rice, handing it out to customers as needed. Both pallets were completely sold out by the time I left the store about 45 minutes later. I talked with two of the warehouse guys independent of each other, playing dumb and asking what was going on. Both said they were receiving normal shipments, just as they always had, but that customers were spooked and buying a lot more than normal. Both told me they expected their next rice shipment on Tuesday. One of them also told me (then showed me) that they were completely out of 'general purpose' flour, and only had specialized bread-making flour in stock. Both swore up and down...that there were no shortages, just a run on things that they blamed on the media. There was enough cooking oil to fill a swimming pool, no shortages there. LA LA LA LA LA LA! I see nuttZINGK!! Oh yeah, and barley prices are up sharply also, and wine is doing just fine. Update: To clarify what I'm getting at, if it is not already too late, this is your final boarding call. The gates are rapidly closing on your opportunity to mitigate. Good luck. And other stuff I doubtless "fail to understand". Lessee: "The ego thrives upon attack; attack defines its entire existence. As long as it is fighting, it clings to the illusion of its own reality. Suffering makes it real; death makes it real. Thus the ego is irrevocably committed to death, and only to death." Yup. Frankly I think an obsession with the elimination of "ego" is a bit unbalanced myself. The ego is an integral part of our being from birth to death. There is probably a good reason for that. posted by Desert Cat @ 1:59 PM | permalink Official Obama Blogger A Marxist?Commentsposted by Desert Cat @ 1:50 PM | permalink Saturday, April 26, 2008Arlo Guthrie Solo Reunion Tour- Together At LastApril 26. 2008. Yes, that pop you just heard was Dennis Kucinich's head exploding. I keep telling you people, it doesn't matter who is elected. It is myopia and fluffy-headed denialism that will get you in the end. There is no wisdom in pretending things are A-OK when they are not. "The Lord will provide", but inevitably it is that the Lord has moved someone else to make provision. One's own responsibility does not end at the intonation of this mantra. If this world is about to wrap its arms around the porcelain throne and hurl 'til it's blue, it behooves one to get as far out of the way as possible and to stock up on wet-wipes. And those who seek to burn the foundation stones will be counted among the transgressors. To paraphrase the scriptures: "These things must come to pass. But woe to him by whom they come!" Here are links to the noted chapters: Revelation 17, Revelation 18 Consider this passage: 9 When the kings of the earth who committed adultery with her and shared her luxury see the smoke of her burning, they will weep and mourn over her. 10 Terrified at her torment, they will stand far off and cry:Of what other nation on earth can this more truly be said today? The disappearance of what other great nation would cause the merchants of the world to exclaim so? We are indeed that city by which the merchants of the world grow rich, selling us every luxury and indulgence. Hmm hmm. 15 Then the angel said to me, The waters you saw, where the prostitute sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations and languages. 16 The beast and the ten horns you saw will hate the prostitute. They will bring her to ruin and leave her naked; they will eat her flesh and burn her with fire. 17 For God has put it into their hearts to accomplish his purpose by agreeing to give the beast their power to rule, until God's words are fulfilled. 18 The woman you saw is the great city that rules over the kings of the earth.Note here that the harlot is separate from the ten-horned beast (revived Roman empire), rides the beast (implying dominance over, and/or support by), and is noted as that city that rules over the kings of the earth (of which other nation of the world can this be said today?) Further noteworthy is that this very beast and horns will be the downfall of the harlot. They will perhaps tire of her burden, tire of the empty promises paid in exchange for her luxuries, tire of her insolent demands and arrogant actions, throw her off and bring her to ruin, in order to be able to get on with the business of completing that which has been decreed. 4 Then I heard another voice from heaven say:Duly forewarned, we will have no excuse. Update: More here, much more. Left sidebar near the top (don't be distracted by the Schwarzenegger ramblings below the introductory section). Ezekiel 6:(key the highlighted verses) 1 Then I heard him call out in a loud voice, "Bring the guards of the city here, each with a weapon in his hand." 2 And I saw six men coming from the direction of the upper gate, which faces north, each with a deadly weapon in his hand. With them was a man clothed in linen who had a writing kit at his side. They came in and stood beside the bronze altar."Come out of her, my people..." THE EIGHT LETTERS # 5 PENDING JUDGMENT Someone on Bane's site in the comments was wondering how America would be taken down, since it appears necessary for the One World Government to succeed that America and us cantankerous independence-loving Americans be shoved aside. I have always surmised it would be by economic sabotage by our enemies and not-so-friendly trading partners. Could be by God himself? Many students of prophecy believe that America does not appear to play any substantial role in the final act of this age in prophecy. I've long thought that something would transpire to reduce us from superpower to has-been status before the last act opens. It hasn't really occurred to me before now that God himself may whack this country first, then get on to the business of judging the enemies of Israel. Update: This originally came to my attention via an e-newsletter I am subscribed to. This link has some maps. Update 2: Are we SURE the US does not figure anywhere in prophecy? How about Revelation 17 and 18? "Oh DC, you cannot *possibly* apply those passages to the good ol' US of A! Can you?" Well, I don't know. ![]() Yes I know my posting has not been as in-depth as usual, at least on the personal side of things. This is part of why--I've been up to my ears in still another round of "get the house ready" scrambling. This time we're putting it on the market for sale. Sadly. Because I really wanted to live in this house myself, at least for a while. But selling this house will free up a little bit of cash to do something else we want to do out on the farm. (And if for some reason it *doesn't* sell in a reasonable amount of time, I am ready to move into it anyway and rent out our current residence instead. Mostly because we can ask more rent for our current residence, but partly because I want to actually *live* in a house I've put so much effort into over the last three-plus years.) So go clickity over there. I am still working on getting my new photos up--the ones shown are a couple years old but still pretty close to what it looks like. You enjoy hunting or collecting or sport shooting...I don't think he really gets it that people are looking for a president who stands up for you, and not looks down on you," Clinton said. Hey Clinton, ditz. Yes there is. Just what in the name of all that is sane do you think people shoot when they go sport shooting? Pop guns? I mean hey, I appreciate the lip service to the idea that not everyone who owns guns is interested in using them for hunting purposes, but the most popular sport shooting weapon out there is the AR-15--the classic so-called "assault weapon". And what in the name of all that is rational is an "assault weapon" anyway? A weapon that jumps off the table and assaults someone?! FFS, *any* weapon, whether a firearm, a knife or a baseball bat can be used in an assault. And a rifle has a distinct *dis*advantage in close quarters where most assaults actually take place. If you're determined to illegally assault someone using a firearm, an easily concealed snubby revolver is a much better choice. You use an AR-15 or similar rifle when you're shooting at bad guys (or far more often, paper targets) at 25, 50, or 100 yards or more away. This false distinction that focuses almost completely on "scary" appearances betrays either a gross ignorance of guns and shooting, or deliberate obfuscation. And the "keep assault weapons off the street" remark? Oh puh-LEEZ biatch! Gang bangers do not generally tote AR-15 rifles around. They're much too bulky--like a ten foot neon sign saying "hey cop, arrest me!". And if think you're going to try to go after the weapons that ganger bangers *do* tend to tote, then you're going to run smack into the brick wall that is the law-abiding, licensed-to-carry-concealed-weapons citizens like myself. Don't kid yourself anyone. Hillary is no friend of the Second Amendment, and her determination to push that now-expired and ill-conceived bit of legislation ("assault" weapons ban) back onto the sport shooting public is Exhibit A. posted by Desert Cat @ 8:53 AM | permalink Monday, April 14, 2008McCain Seeks Funds Despite Legal Hurdles - WSJ.comMcCain Seeks Funds Despite Legal Hurdles - WSJ.com

My occasion for spending a little time once again with the old Communist was Barack Obama's now-famous comment at an April 6 San Francisco fund-raiser. Obama was explaining his trouble winning over small-town, working-class voters... This sent me to Marx's famous statement about religion in the introduction to his "Contribution to the Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right": The mask slips indeed. "Oh he's no Marxist! He's a liberal!" Funny isn't it, how liberals are called moderates and Marxists are called liberals these days? Hey, you know maybe he's not. Maybe liberals really do draw far more from Marx than they are willing to admit publicly. Update: Baldilocks hits the nail on the head: In Obama's mind, the religion clung to by the "average poor white Pennsylvanian" is BLT's [Black Liberation Theology's] demonic "white" Church. The "white" Church is the tool of oppression for all--including poor whites--and should be shaken off just like other social maladies. Just like anti-immigration (sic) and racism. One will note that, in the defense of the earlier remarks, Obama still does not say anything objectively positive about the religion adhered to by the average rural white Pennsylvanian. What he actually says is that government should answer their prayers.about Labels: politics posted by Desert Cat @ 9:22 AM | permalink Jedi Mind TrickLabels: felicity and jocularity, politics posted by Desert Cat @ 9:10 AM | permalink Duck Hunting With A Six-Gun?Mouth Of The Potomac - NY Daily News

Well I was born in a small town "Boy howdy, can'tcha just see how bitter he is?" "Indeed glasshoppah. Let me illuminate you as to how he expresses his deeply felt bitterness and alienation: Well I was born in a small townHere the author sums up the hopelessness he feels--his entire existence is proscribed by the limitations of his environment. All my friends are so small townNo hope, and especially no economic opportunities. He looks around him and all he sees are people mired in the same dire circumstances as himself--generation after generation being ground into dust. Educated in a small townHere the author describes the oppression of his religious upbringing and the distorted teachings of his circumscribed environment--though he gleaned in stolen moments of reverie the possibility of more out there, somehow, somewhere... But Ive seen it all in a small townHowever that flicker of awareness is brief. Instead of grasping it and transcending his circumstances, the oppressed instead becomes the oppressor and draws another innocent down into his darkness. No I cannot forget where it is that I come fromHere he makes the statement more emphatic. His is the darkness. His are the people of the darkness and chains. He rejects the light, and takes comfort in the familiar, though it is wracked with pain and despair. Well I was born in a small townFinally the author descends into nihilistic fatalism, and the song ends. You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them. And they fell through the Clinton administration, and the Bush administration, and each successive administration has said that somehow these communities are gonna regenerate and they have not. "Waal, Mabel. Mah job's gone done been shipped to Chinee. Ah'm gonna grab muh shotgun 'n go sit out back 'n pray t'Gawhd. If'n thet Negro Bomma boy comes round, y'all tell 'im t'GIT! We don' wan' his kine 'round here." Yeah, that'll play in Allentown. Update: More here from Ace. Still more from Allahpundit: Hey, Barry? The objection here isn't that you’re "out of touch" (as Trent Lott is), it’s that you're a condescending, crypto-Marxist, elitist liberal poseur. And your what's-the-matter-with-Kansas apologia tonight in Indiana doesn’t do a blessed thing to change that impression.and Candor from Marc Ambinder: "We're dealing tonight with a classic Kinseyian 'gaffe, where a candidate says what he means and then is forced to account for it. Be sure to watch that linked video. He *is* good. I don't think he really manages to pull his arse out of the fire with that gaffe the other day, but the man can speak and engage an audience. Update 2: More in-depth analysis here. Update 3: Gov. Edward G. Rendell of Pennsylvania said Mr. Obama should not have implied that rural voters were clinging to their guns as a way of dealing with their frustrations. "People in rural Pennsylvania don't turn to guns and religion as an escape," Mr. Rendell said. "Hunting and sportsmanship are long-established traditions here, and people of faith founded the commonwealth and continue to live here. What the senator has done is essentially misread what is actually happening in Pennsylvania." David Saunders, a Democratic strategist and rural advocate, advised John Edwards's presidential campaign but is now neutral. He said he believed that Mr. Obama's comments would offend rural voters. "It could mean he’s rendered himself unelectable," Mr. Saunders said. "This is a perfect example of why Democrats lose elections." Update 4: Newt's take on it: If you go to the most expensive private school in Hawaii and then move on to Columbia University and Harvard Law School, you may not understand normal Americans. Their beliefs are so alien to your leftwing viewpoint that you have to seek some psychological explanation for what seem to be weird ideas. Bingo! Update 5: More yet from Slate.com "If I worded things in a way that made people offended, I deeply regret that," he told the Winston-Salem Journal. Poor wording was not the problem; on the contrary, it was his precision that was so unfortunate, and his ability to pack half a dozen unintended insults into a single sentence uncanny. And in San Francisco, no less? Roger Ailes couldn't have planned it better, unless he'd maybe followed up the event with some impromptu windsurfing in the bay. Read the rest... It's pretty good, and actually provides a useful perspective to Democrats who sincerely want to do better with this demographic. and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all. 7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8 By oppression and judgment he was taken away. And who can speak of his descendants? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was stricken. 9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth. 10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes his life a guilt offering, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand. 11 After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities. 12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, and he will divide the spoils with the strong, because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors. Dadcat has walked closely with Jesus his savior for over twenty years now. His faith is strong, as is his desire for heaven. His attitude is like the apostle Paul when he said: Yes, and I will continue to rejoice, for I know that through your prayers and the help given by the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance. I eagerly expect and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Phillipians 1:18-24 NIV Therefore tomorrow, Thursday April 10, 2008, members of his church, his family, online friends and others will come together for a day of fasting and prayer, seeking the face of our Lord and Savior for a full and complete restoration of his bones and joints and marrow and blood to full strength and health. The prayer meeting will begin at 7:00 PM Arizona time. Those of you so inclined, we covet your prayers and your participation. This is for the glory of no man, but to the glory of Christ Jesus. The more who pray, the less anyone may boast in his heart that it was his prayers that counted most. As the scriptures say, Jesus is the same yesterday, today and tomorrow, and we believe that he can, if he will, heal the broken body as he did in the day he walked the face of this earth. Now as for how to pray, each one of you doubtless has your own mode. As for myself, I recognize the truth of scripture that says it was the blood of Jesus Christ that was shed for the remission of sin, and it is by his wounds that we receive healing. Therefore I crawl to the foot of the cross and beseech my Lord and Savior that he take upon himself the sickness that has beset my father, that His blood be the powerful healing transfusion that transforms, and that the unquenchable fierceness of His love that flows from the cross be showered upon my papa, that his body may be restored to full health. In the Name of Jesus Christ, and for His glory, be it so. That is bad. The most measurable impact is Social Security payments, which should be 43% higher. Another way to look at it is that this number fiddling means Social Security payments have been cut by nearly half, for the period of 1993-2004. So those of you who watched your wages rise slowly but steadily during that period, who thought that perhaps you were getting ahead, since your raises were higher than the CPI, were actually falling behind. Riots erupted in Kenya on Tuesday as opposition leaders announced that they were pulling out of talks with the government over a stalled power-sharing agreement. Trouble in Kenya. And in the center of the storm is opposition leader Raila Odinga, cousin and "close personal friend" of American Presidential candidate Barack H. Obama. Odinga is a socialist, allied with radical Islamists in Kenya, for whom Barack H. Obama has traveled to Kenya to express his support. Folks, this is not going away. The Rev. Wright was not an anomaly in the life of Barack H. Obama, but rather one element of a much deeper and more troubling web of unsavory connections. This is not a "distraction". There is a deeply troubling picture that is beginning to be outlined here, and it is of vital interest to the American electorate in this time of Islamist terror and resurgent authoritarianism. Do we want to elect a president with sympathetic ties to Islamic extremists and hardline socialists/communists? Yes, I know that many on the fringe left do. How about you, Mr. and Mrs. Middle America? Update: Related story--Zimbabwe: Lessons From Kenya Excerpts: Anyone who opposes a hated sitting president automatically becomes a democrat. Mwai Kibaki was feted as a democrat for defeating Daniel arap Moi without anyone examining his democratic credentials. The election was judged free and fair. In five years the guy has shown his true colours and those who elected him are shocked by his "transformation" from what he never was to a corrupt dictator and tribalist. To me there was no betrayal of the people but an exposure of bad choice. Barack Obama has political roots in extreme elements of leftist ideology and racial identity politics and is now attempting to distance himself from some of the more outrageous actors in his past in his effort to court the political middle. Which candidate has a better chance of election? The man who angers his base while courting the middle, or the man who pleases his base while courting the middle? The man who probably has a long-standing legitimate claim to the political center, or the man who must now make a concerted effort to paint himself as acceptable to the political center? Dang if I know. Rush has often said that "conservatism wins every time it is tried", meaning that a motivated base combined with appeals to the center is more of a winning combination than attempting to run a moderate who disappoints the base. If this holds true, then all of Obama's wacky racist pastors, hate mongering associates, radical Islamist family connections, and other far left and extremist associations won't cost him the race. We are so screwed. Mr. Maliki has issued a series of seemingly inconsistent decrees in recent days about his willingness to take on militias. General Abud said the Iraqi operations in Sadr City were not aimed at any specific political movement. The statement seemed intended to reassure Mr. Sadr's followers, but General Abud insisted that Iraqi security forces would take action against any militia brandishing arms. Izzat so, Mister Prime Minister? What's good for Americans isn't good for Iraqis then? The truth is, this is the position established and pushed by US administrators and diplomats in Iraq. And you know that they who have the power want to force this same position on American citizens. Nevermind the catastrophe that total gun bans have proven to create in other countries--that's not the point. They don't care how dangerous the streets become. They don't care if hoodlums run rampant knowing full well that honest citizens are forbidden to defend themselves. They just want to make sure the peasants are denied their pitchforks so they cannot challenge the ruling elite who live their lives behind their armed bodyguards and within the safety of their gated enclaves. Hey Bush supporters, is this what American soldiers are fighting and dying for? Back home we cherish our second amendment for all the reasons it was established, including as surety against tyranny, but over there we're fighting to support a regime that denies and disparages this same right? Do we not call the rights enumerated in the Bill of Rights "natural rights"--rights that exist as granted by God to *all men* and not bestowed as privileges by government? Are you sure you're not being slowly transformed into the Statist you once abhorred? I can't. Not really. Hatred or loathing is not an emotion I feel very often. And in regards to specific individuals, rather more rarely yet. In racking my brain to come up with what I do hate, I note that I do hate Islamic extremists as a group and as an ideology, when I permit myself to contemplate the depths of their depraved vision. I would probably hate individual jihadis if confronted by them in their dysfunctional hatred. I hated communism when it had more power in this world, and may have hated individual communists working to enslave me to their totalitarian vision. To the degree that any ordinary citizen who is not a member of the ruling elite is capable of, I believe that I have a fair grasp of the power structure of this world. I recognize it to be evil. I also recognize that many key individuals who are implementing their world vision of neo-(liberal)-fascism are likewise evil to a greater or lesser degree, depending upon how fully they understand their role in its implementation. I strongly suspect however that many of the members of this elite do not believe that what they strive for is evil, and is in fact a "greater good" for humanity (and the planet) as a whole. While I am tempted to hate, and indeed do when I think about the suffering it has meant for so many in recent decades as well as earlier manifestations throughout the millenia, I think there is a touch more fear than hatred for these, given the vastness of the effort and the incredible speed with which it is being implemented, largely if not almost completely under the radar. But as you are aware, I also believe that I have cast my lot with the One who will, in fact, overthrow this regime, and perhaps very soon. But not before those of my ilk have been defeated in the eyes of the world. When I consider George W. Bush in this greater scope, I do not see the lynchpin. I see an important player who is nonetheless only one of many players implementing this vision. And his role is fairly limited at that. The focal point of the larger part of this effort at present is Europe. Furthermore, as is the nature of such things, he may not be fully aware as to how his role fits into the greater scheme. The reason I cannot loathe George W Bush nor really sympathize greatly with those who do, is that I believe he provides a false target for those inclined, a misleading lightning-rod that conceals and leaves the real power untouched. The real power is not and never has been subject to elections or popular opinion. Indeed it is they who shape popular opinion amongst many other things. GWB is a bit player and his time is almost up. When he leaves, the next assigned actor for that role will take his or her place, whether they be Democrat or Republican. You may have noticed that real choices for president are not allowed to us. Ron Paul represents a thorn in the side of the power. Thus all of the bellowing and snorting about how "wacko" he was and how he stood zero chance of election was fed through the information channels and filtered down to individual bloggers who bought it and echoed it as if it were a unique thought born of their mighty intellect. But it was nonsense. In a "real" election, Ron Paul would represent a strong plurality of this nation and would have been a solid contender. And Europe has all but dropped the illusion of democracy. The EU is revealed as a fascist construct. John F. Kerry was every bit a part of that same cabal, as was Gore and are the Clintons and McCain. And Obama was thrust into his current position by another corrupt arm of this same power structure. Make no mistake, it was the Chicago political machine that made him, and he is as much a part of it and beholden to it as any who attain power seemingly so easily. So, no. I don't really. Rather I believe you are spending your emotional capital unwisely. Are you familiar with the Hegelian Dialectic? If so, then you likely understand that nothing happens in this world (that we hear about anyway) that does not serve the interests of those manipulating the current dialectic. You can be sure that when one idea is pitted strongly against another idea relentlessly in the public arena, the truth is found elsewhere. Pro-Bush versus Anti-Bush is a deliberate construct. The War. On. Terrr-rrr-rr! versus those damnable hippies, commies, unpatriotic PUNKS! and crypto-terrorists who want to sell us out to the jihadis (ahem) is another. Yuppa. You want me to make a concession about having once been duped? There ya go. I bought that one, but have since recognized it ain't so simple and there's something else going on. But hating Bush? Yeah, go ahead if you've got emotional capital to burn and don't mind missing the rest of the forest.
